God is Revealed as We Gather

Choral Call to Worship    “Flower Duet” from Lakmé   Gudrun Witrak & Jan MacDonald

*Responsive Call to Worship                     from Worship Ways

Christ is in our midst! How will you bid him welcome?
We will throw open the doors to our hearts.
We will delight in his presence.
When God shows up, surprising things can happen.
We will make ourselves ready. We will lay down our burdens and set aside our distractions.
Here we receive good news:
Nothing is too wonderful for God!
So let us laugh and sing, rest and listen, dance and praise—Let us worship God!

*Opening Hymn “Awake, Awake to Love and Work” (#89)

Unison Prayer of Confession     adapted from Thom Shuman

In the mirror we call scripture, Revealing God, we see ourselves for who we are and are not. We whine about those who are not doing what we think they should, while we ignore our own failings. We speak words which nibble away at the goodness of life. Forgive us, Reconciling Love. Sit us down at Jesus’ feet, so we may learn the balanced life you intend for us. Help us set aside our grudges and offer our gifts to our neighbors. May we stop licking at our hurts and reach out in love to our sisters and brothers.

*Unison Prayer of Dedication

Generous God, we share what we have because we wish to serve you with the best we have to offer. Bless our offerings that they may become a bountiful feast for all who need to be filled with good things. Open our eyes to see the strangers you call us to welcome. Empower us to receive them as you do, with radically inclusive hospitality.
