God is Revealed as We Gather
*Responsive Call to Worship ~ Thom Shuman
Called to be light,
we would carry God’s hope into the shadows of the world.
Called to be salt,
we would enhance the lives of those around us with joy.
Called to live in God’s reality,
we would welcome everyone as sisters and brothers in faith.
*Opening Hymn “You Are Salt for the Earth, O People” (#181)
Unison Prayer of Confession
We admit, Holy One, how in superstition, we will throw salt over our shoulders, but find it hard to flavor a world made bland by indifference. We dim our gifts to save our energy, instead of shining as long as we can in society’s shadowed corners. Forgive us, and have mercy, Holy One. By your grace, heal our brokenness, so we might fix the shattered hopes of your world. We pray in Jesus’ name. Amen.
