*Responsive Call to Worship
Come and worship, all you who love and serve the Lord:
outsiders and insiders, old-timers and new-comers,
the young, old and the in-between.
Come as you are, for this is God’s house:
a house of prayer for all people,
and God welcomes each one who comes.
*Opening Hymn: “I Woke Up This Morning” (#85)
- Woke up this morning…
- Singing and praying with my mind…
- Standing and marching with my mind…
- Serving and loving with my mind…
Responsive Prayer of Confession (Rev. Teri Peterson)
God, we want so badly to do what is right.
In our zeal we forget to listen for your voice, forging ahead on our own way since we cannot imagine another. We close our eyes to your image shining in the faces of the wrong people. We close our ears to your word coming from those with whom we disagree. We close our hearts against those who are different. Instead we offer advice, or ultimatums, or patronizing help, when what you desire is relationship, compassion, and justice.
~ a time for silent reflection and prayer~
Forgive us, O God.
Heal our hard-heartedness. Shift our thinking. Open our eyes. Turn us to follow your way. Amen.
