God is Revealed as We Gather
*Responsive Call to Worship adapted from Thom Shuman
Jesus began his ministry to the world,
led by the Spirit into the wilderness.
As we begin our Lenten journey, let us be led by the Spirit, even into the uncomfortable places.
In those forty days, and in that place, Jesus was faced with hunger, doubt and temptation.
As we seek to follow Jesus, we would be led, even into the uncomfortable choices.
Jesus left the wilderness, faithful and obedient to God,
rejoicing in the One in whom he trusted.
As we continue on our path to faithfulness,
we will be led by our Christ, rejoicing in our God.
*Opening Hymn “Just As I Am” (#207)
Unison Prayer of Confession adapted from Ted Loder
Catch us in our anxious scurrying Lord and hold us in this Lenten season. Hold our feet to the fire of your grace and make us more attentive to our own mortality that we may begin to die now to those things that keep us from living fully with you and with our neighbors: to grudges and indifference; to certainties that smother possibilities; and to our fear of dying someday that eats away the wonder of this day and the adventure of losing our lives in order to find them in you.
