Sharon Dawson
Children’s Ministry Coordinator

Sharon Dawson, RYT, AYS, Children’s Ministry Coordinator at Peace Church since fall of 2019, is an artist as well as an Adaptive Ayurvedic Yoga Specialist.  She received a bachelor’s degree in Fine Art from the University of Minnesota – Duluth in 1986.  After Sharon studied Buddhist meditation at the Gampo Abbey in Nova Scotia her interest was kindled by the connection she found between the practices of meditation and creative process for therapeutic effect on the mind.  She relocated to study topics of art therapy in non-European tradition and feminist perspectives at the University of New Mexico, Albuquerque.  Over the past 14 years she has been certified to teach Yoga and Ayurveda in the Himalayan Tradition and has developed and facilitates an Art of Yoga Curriculum that is a form of trauma sensitive wellness therapy for individuals involved in the justice system.  Sharon is also certified in yoga therapy and has developed programs for individuals with physical and cognitive challenges as well as individuals with chronic pain and serious illness such as cancer and heart disease.  She has returned to her birthplace of Duluth on the shore of Lake Superior to raise her daughter and enjoy the wild north woods and waters.  When not creating art, teaching yoga or working with the children at Peace Church, you can most likely find her—rain or shine—hiking, paddling or biking the shores of our Great Lake at sundown in amazement and gratitude for the abundance of healing beauty offered there.
