It’s a new fall season and that means we’ll be kicking off our adult forums again, adapted virtual style. We’ll be holding the forums on Sunday morning after worship from 11:30-12:30 and the zoom link will be in your Friday email update. (Note that the 2nd Sunday of the month we will not have a forum since that will be a “drive by” Sunday, a time to gather at a distance in person outside in the lower parking lot)

Fall Theme: Dovetailing with our stewardship theme this year on love, we’ll be beginning with a focus on love of neighbor, and in particular centering on the topic of community safety, opening up conversations in the aftermath of the death George Floyd and others since. How is the conversation on community safety changing? What does it mean for us in the Peace community with a call to love our neighbor? We will have a series of conversations that will explore different aspects of this conversation. Here is a list of the first 3 topics:

Sept. 20:  Beginning the community safety conversation. Nathan Holst will facilitate and open up a conversation about what community safety means, how we are currently engaging it, and what we are hearing about different perspectives on the subject.

Sept. 27: Citizen Review Board (CRB). We will hear from Ricky Defoe (who was a part of creating the CRB in Duluth) and Archie Davis (currently sitting on the CRB), giving us the history of the CRB in Duluth, as well as unpacking the strengths and limitations of the CRB in its current form.

Oct. 4: Elected Leaders. We will hear from city leaders Councilor Gary Anderson and Councilor Terese Tomanek on how they view the current conversation around community safety, what they are hearing, and how they are engaging it in our community.
