*Responsive Call to Worship
One: Come with your questions of why; bring your search for meaning.
Many: For the Storyteller who speaks to the listening heart meets us in this place.
One: Come with your desire for belonging; bring your commitment to build the beloved community.
Many: For the Storyteller who embraces the loving heart meets us in this place.
One: Come with your dissatisfaction; bring your troubled soul.
Many: For the Storyteller who comforts the weary heart meets us in this place.
One: Come to hear the story; come to share the story; come to live the story.
Many: We come to claim our inheritance: the story that grounds us. We are Beloved Children of God.
We come to claim our redemption: the story of Jesus that challenges us. We are Life-Giving Servants to all our Relations.
We come to rejoice, for the Storyteller, the One who is still telling our Life-giving story, meets us in this place.
*Opening Hymn: “You Have Come Down to the Lakeshore” (#173 black hymnal)
Unison Prayer of Confession:
Loving God by speaking you create all that is and give order and goodness to the universe. You place it all in our hands and thus we think it belongs to us. Your order is that the world would sustain us, our plan is to own it and re-order it to suit ourselves. Jesus came and showed us the grace of your Spirit and Truth, he called us to follow and to live in his way of vulnerable love, but we do not even reach out to our neighbors. Every day we are wrapped in your grace and mercy, yet in the arrogance of our lives, we wrestle free of your embrace. Let us return to your way and welcome your healing light into our hearts. Release us from the grip of any sins that we hide and fill us with your joy.
