God is Revealed as We Gather
Choral Call to Worship: “Praise to the Lord, the Almighty”
*Responsive Call to Worship (adapted from Thom Shuman)
Welcome! There are many places you could be this morning,
but you have chosen to be here:
where we seek the wind-riding God and the servant-calling Jesus.
Welcome to this place—full of music, of words, of prayer,
yet also filled with the Spirit that calls us out of our ease:
where we encounter The Mystery we cannot limit, a Wisdom
we cannot always understand.
Welcome to God’s House, the most unsettling place in town:
where we talk about and with God, only to be reduced to silence so we may hear the call to discipleship.
*Opening Hymn: “Christ Jesus, Please Be By Our Side” (#375)
Unison Prayer of Confession
Loving Creator, we admit that we like to put You into neat little boxes—the God of this, the God of that, the God of these people but not of those people. We admit we make You too small, too manageable. Desperate to get to the front of the line, we forget You and push aside the very ones You seek to honor. Forgive our short-sightedness, our self-absorption, and our stubbornness. Enlarge our hearts, souls, and minds so that we drink the cup that overflows with grace and live in the servanthood way of Jesus.
Assurance of God’s Love: “Now Do We Pray God, the Holy Ghost”
Welcoming of New Members
We welcome you with joy in the common life of this church.
We promise you our friendship and prayers as we share the
hopes and labors of the church of Jesus Christ. By the power
of the Holy Spirit may we continue to grow together in God’s knowledge and love and be witnesses of our risen Savior.
