God is Revealed as We Gather
*Responsive Call to Worship
Come, let us give thanks to God!
We gather together to praise the One who strengthens the weak and hears the prayers of the forgotten.
Come, let us give thanks to Christ!
We gather together to sing of the One who calls us to serve those who are hungry and alone.
Come, let us give thanks to the Spirit!
We gather together to exalt the One who provokes us to love not only our family and friends, but also the guests among us.
*Opening Hymn “There’s a Wideness in God’s Mercy” (#23)
Responsive Prayer (based on I Samuel 1:4-20, adapted from Safiyah Fosua)
Our souls are poured out before you, O God, as we look for more in life than contentment. We thank you, Holy One, for all of your blessings. Yet, in our souls, we long to be a blessing to others, as Abraham was a blessing to many nations, as Hannah longed for something in her life to offer back to you, O God.
We long to make a difference in this world. Open our eyes, O God, to whatever you have already entrusted to us for the good of your people. Open our ears, O God, to the intersections between human need and our heart’s desire. Open our hearts, O God, to recognize and nurture new gifts. Our souls are poured out before you, O God. Let your servants find favor in your sight. Amen.
