God is Revealed as We Gather
*Responsive Call to Worship
This, says Yahweh, is the fasting that I wish: releasing those bound unjustly, untying the thongs of the yoke;
Sharing our bread with the hungry, sheltering the oppressed and the homeless;
Clothing the naked when we see them, and not turning our backs on anyone.
Then God’s light shall rise for us in the darkness, and the gloom shall become like midday; May God renew our strength, so we too shall be like watered gardens, like a spring whose water never fails. Let us sing our praise to God.
*Opening Hymn “Let Me Enter God’s Own Dwelling”
(verses 1-4, #67 black hymnal)
Responsive Prayer of Confession by Marilyn Mayry
In the busyness, struggles, and joys of our own lives, we can fail to hear, notice, or stop to understand the lives of those often unseen or ignored around us.
As we journey through this most amazing and mysterious life, let us acquire the heart of love that allows us to see what we often don’t notice or fail to be part of changing. Let us see even in the shadows where despair seeks hope and love gives light.
In this time when separation and derision, difference and “other” has made us feel alien and fearful, bring us to true love and unity with one another.
Help us to see those who do not have enough, and remind us how much we have to give and to share. Help us to know that the world is home for all of us and not just a chosen few. Help us to make this true and real for each of us.
Let us learn from our spiritual teachers and guides what true love is so that we may embody it and live it consciously and constantly.
Oh Great and Glorious Mystery that embraces all things, embrace each of us today. Open our ears that we may hear, our eyes that we may see and our hearts that we may love. Hold us close to one another in this miracle of life where each of us is precious, and where each of us is part of this Divine whole that was, is, and will be now and forever.
