God is Revealed as We Gather
*Responsive Call to Worship Adapted from Sheri Brown
I will sing of your unfailing love forever, Eternal One,
I will speak of your faithfulness to all generations.
I will tell how your unfailing love will always stand strong,
And how your faithfulness is the bedrock of all creation.
How happy are those who have learned how to praise you,
Who have learned to journey through life in the light of your presence,
Who rejoice in the sound of your name every hour of the day.
They are lifted up and encouraged, sure that you work all things to the good.
Your love, Eternal One, is a beauty that does not fade or fail,
But grows ever brighter and stronger as it lives in us,
So that we overflow with loving-kindness,
And everything in us proclaims your kingdom come.
Opening Hymn “Jesu, Jesu, Fill Us With Your Love”
(#498 black hymnal)
Prayer of Confession
Gracious God, we come to this place hungry, hurting, in need
of healing; our minds are cluttered, some of us with our spirits beaten down. We come – egos protesting, pride trying to trip us up. We come – doubts on our back and hoping for your spark of love. We come – fighting and feuding, judging and blaming. We come – needing your love and energy to give back to the world what You would have us give. Examine all of our parts now, Lord, what we show and what we hide. Set apart, we pray, the shame that distorts, the fears that cripple, and help us to know fully your extravagant love…for all.
