God is Revealed as We Gather
*Responsive Call to Worship written by Gary Boelhower
God of ordinary and extraordinary miracles:
We recognize you as the messiah who will establish everlasting justice and universal peace. As we place our hope in you, we also promise to work toward your kingdom today.
God of sacrifice and service:
We recognize you as the suffering servant who takes up the cross for us. May we follow your radical example of unconditional and inclusive love.
God of flesh and bread:
We recognize you as gift in every cell, in every incarnation of beauty and truth. Today we celebrate life and renew ourselves for faithful service in your beloved community.
*Opening Hymn “Joyful, Joyful, We Adore You” (#4)
Unison Prayer of Confession
God of infinite wisdom and love, we humbly recognize our selfish ways and our missed opportunities. We often choose comfort over courage. We often pay attention to our own wants before addressing the basic needs of others. We often play it safe when it comes to service and sacrifice. We ask that you expand our hearts. Help us to be more dedicated servants of your beloved community. Increase our courage that we might be bold in extending our hands and hearts to others and in confronting the sinful social structures of our day.
