God is Revealed as We Gather
*Responsive Call to Worship adapted from Thom Shuman
How you love us, God of rainbow promises!
Like a mother who teaches her son the steps for his first dance, like the father who goes out with his daughter so
she can learn how to drive, you love us that much and more.
How you offer yourself to us, Brother of the beloved!
You gather us up in your arms, simply to hear our deepest hopes; you reach out your scarred hands to gently wipe our fears away.
How you share yourself with us, journey’s Spirit!
You bathe our wearied souls in the cooling waters of baptism; you wipe the dust of the wilderness out of our eyes so we can see your realm.
*Opening Hymn “Come, O Fount of Every Blessing” (#459)
Unison Prayer of Confession Iona Community
O hidden mystery, sun behind all suns, soul behind all souls, you are in everything we touch; in everyone we meet your presence is around us, and for this we give you thanks.
But too often we have not touched, but trampled you in creation. We have not met you, but missed you in one
another. We have not received you in the poor and oppressed, but rejected you.
Forgive us. Have mercy upon us.
