Responsive Call to Worship
The God who is greater than we will ever understand,
was humbled to become one of us so we might know how to live.
The God who is more loving that our hearts dare imagine,
gives us more grace than we ever realize.
The God who is wiser than we will ever know,
loves us and teaches us to love all God’s children.
Let us worship our God together in joy.
*Opening Hymn “Take My Gifts” (#562 black hymnal)
Unison Prayer of Confession adapted from Thom Shuman
Holy God, we are so easily confused by what the world tells us, we forget the stories of your faithful love. We are so fearful of tomorrow, we are not aware of your Spirit with us today. We are so busy wondering ‘what if?’ or ‘suppose?’, we cannot hear the promise of your presence which you whisper to us each day.
Gracious God, have mercy on us. You know our hearts so well – touch them with your grace. You see our deepest fears – heal them with your peace. You hear our secret longings – speak to them of your hope. This we pray in the name of Jesus our Christ. Amen.

Bless these gifts, gracious God, and bless all those who will be served because of them. We bring our promises of giving for 2014 because we hope for a stronger church, a more compassionate world, and a time of greater peace. Shape us, through our giving, into a more generous people, full of joy and hope.
