God is Revealed as We Gather
*Responsive Call to Worship adapted from Thom Shuman
From north and south, from east and west, we come:
God’s people called to the Table
where God’s grace nourishes us.
From down the street to across town, or over the bridge:
God’s people are called to community,
where we live and serve one another.
From little ones with sippy cups to
elders with overflowing hearts:
God’s people are called to witness to God’s hope,
to offer peace to a shattered world.
*Opening Hymn “Christ is the Mountain…” (#45)
Responsive Prayer of Confession from South Africa
For our failure to feel the sufferings of others, and our tendency to live comfortably with injustice, God forgive us.
For the self-righteousness that denies guilt, and the
self-interest that strangles compassion, God forgive us.
For our failings in community, our lack of understanding,
we ask your mercy.
For the times when we are too eager to be better than others, when we are too rushed to care, when we are too tired to bother, when we don’t really listen, when we are too quick to act from motives other than love,
God forgive us and by your Holy Spirit make us new.
