We will be meeting again on Monday, March 9 at 6:30pm at Peace Church to resume work on our quilts for the Steve O’Neil Apartments. There are a few that need binding, some that need to be labeled, and 3 or 4 to be tied. As they are completed and bagged we will hold on quilts for a bit and focus on some other requests from the staff…..cloth napkins, grocery and cleaning supply totes, etc. Fabric donations continue to come in and the closet is quite full so hold on that until further notice.
30 quilts have been delivered to the new tenant families and the reception has been wonderful. A thank you note from one of the young women said, “I just wanted to thank you so very much for the beautiful quilt. I appreciate it so much. God Bless.”
There may be a spin-off project coming this Spring! Mary Lu (from CHUM) and I have been talking about sewing classes to be held at the apartment building….per requests from some of women moving in. How fun could that be? I will provide more info on that on March 9, but in the mean time ask around and see if there may be a sewing machine, iron and ironing board that someone would be willing to donate.
Thank you for your support and hard work. Come back for the fun. Come back for the mission.
The picture is of one of our latest finished creations. The fabric came from one person, another pieced it, then it was assembled with its back and batting by a team of 4, machine quilted by two angels, and brought to me for binding. It was in at least 5 locations and touched by MANY hands. How about that for a community supporting a community?
