Here is an invitation to sign a petition to create a Homeless Bill of Rights in Duluth!
The Duluth City Council will be voting on our resolution ONE WEEK FROM TODAY. As you are (hopefully) hunkered down somewhere safe and warm today, please take a few minutes to help build support for the resolution.
1. LET’S GET TO 1,000 SIGNATURES! We are halfway there with one week to go. Please share the petition by email and social media with your friends. If we each find one more signature, we will meet our goal and show strong community support for our homeless sisters and brothers. http://petitions.moveon.org/sign/establish-a-duluth-homeless?mailing_id=18234&source=s.icn.em.cr&r_by=1523561
2. Contact your City Councilors. Politely ask them to support the resolution on homeless rights before the city council on January 13th. You can remind them that this petition drive was started by people experiencing homelessness — people who routinely face discrimination because they cannot find housing. Ask them to make sure city law protects the human rights of every Duluthian, and work urgently to ensure that all people have a safe place to call home. Find your councilors here: http://www.duluthmn.gov/clerk/council/ccmembers.cfm
3. Show your support at City Hall on January 13th. We will be meeting at 6:30pm downstairs for a brief rally and then walking together to the meeting. We have designated several people who have experienced homelessness to speak for us to the council, and we urge everyone else to stand in respectful solidarity.
Thank you for of your support of this important effort! For more information about the campaign, feel free to email or call Dorothy Day House at 218-724-2054.

PS If you are experiencing homelessness or have tips on people living outside in the Duluth area, please call the STREET OUTREACH 24-HOUR HOTLINE: 218-461-8505. It is dangerously cold out there and we will work to make sure everyone is safely indoors.
