Peace Church has had a partnership for years with churches in the Philippines. Pastor Kathy traveled this past summer to be with our partners and she put out this request that we keep our Philippine Partners in Prayer as they are in the midst of recovering from the largest typhoon on record. Here is a message from their conference minister. Pastor Kathy traveled with her this Summer to the islands she mentions on which are partners are. Several of our partner churches have not been heard from yet.
Dear Kathy and the Duluth Peace Church Members,
Thanks so much for your prayers and concern. Typhoon Yolanda passed by our conference for about 18 hours. We thank God that it has not devastated our place except for some areas which had destroyed houses and some farm crops. We are still waiting for complete report. Initially,we have received news that several houses have been destroyed in Gibosoing (and even the church in Gibosong), Loreto and in Tubajon. We hope the beautiful Gibosong is still there intact and geourgeous! You have been to these places. In Dinagat island, the lights are off and it may take months before electricity can be back again. We remember Rev. Pio Mercado of Tubajon and Rev. Kings Tiu of Loreto and of course Gibosong whose pastor has not reported yet due to her illness( i have been to Gibosong last October 27-28, 2013 for a pastoral visit and was stranded for another day due to bad weather)
Thanks so much for your advent materials including your sermon. We hope to come up with our own Advent Sunday liturgies and sermons; we will share with you although many of those will be in the dialect.
We will keep you updated. Thanks so much for your kind thoughts for us.
In addition to prayer, we can offer our financial support to the United Church of Christ in the Philippines through the UCC web site.
