Prayer of Dedication written by Eric Fought, St. John’s School of Theology
Gentle and loving God, we offer thanks for the many gifts you have given all of us. Today we are especially grateful for the gift of Terese and the call to ministry that you have placed on her heart. Throughout her life, Terese has heeded your call to service with enthusiasm and without hesitation. We gather here as a community of faith to celebrate the gift of that service, having each been touched by it in ways great and small. We raise up and dedicate her gifts, just as we offer our own to benefit the work of One Great Hour of Sharing. Creator of all, we pray that you might open our eyes to see your face in every person we meet. Open our hearts to count each as a brother or sister and open our arms to welcome them all. Let your generosity flow through us, that our lives will be gifts given freely and abundantly in joy and thanksgiving. Amen.
*Closing Song “By Breath” (#1, Praise and Worship Songbook)
*Benediction Rev. Terese Tomanek
Many thanks to all who have been involved in the preparation leading to this service of ordination: Pastor Kathy Nelson and the staff and people of Peace Church, the Minnesota Conference of the United Church of Christ, the Chaplaincy Department of St. Mary’s Hospital, United Theological Seminary and St. John’s School of Theology, and Rev. Charlotte Frantz.
I am grateful to share this day with people who have meant so much to me and played such an important part in my life. Thanks to all who have lived with me, encouraged me, studied with me, and prayed for me. By the grace of God and the support of my family and friends, I look forward to my continued work at Essentia Health/St. Mary’s Hospital and Woodland Hills and wherever else God leads me to serve.
In preparing for ordination, the quote that has been with me since studying this great humanitarian in fifth grade came to mind:
”I don’t know what your destiny will be, but one thing I know: the only ones among you who will be really happy are those who will have sought and found how to serve.” ~Albert Schweitzer
