Peace Church Highlights
Sunday February 26
Sunday February 26 – Sermon by Pastor Kathy. Adult Forum: Introduction to the series “Women, War, & Peace”. Planning meeting for the Boundary Waters Winter Camping Trip after the 10:30 service.
Wednesdays at Peace Church
Regular Wednesday evening activities each week in February.
At 5pm: “Wednesday Evening Time of Prayer”. Join us in the Chapel downstairs for a time of prayer before we gather for our Wednesday meals.
On Wednesday February 22: Ash Wednesday service at 7pm in the Sanctuary . Because of school break, there will be NO Faith Weavers, NO Peace Puppets,
NO Children’s Choir, NO Confirmation, and NO Peace Parenting on February 22. Other Wednesday activities will take place as usual. Dinner: Soup and salad.
Wednesdays February 29 through April 4: Prayers Around the Cross in the Sanctuary (7pm).
Community
Monday February 27 – The Just Peace Committee will sponsor the series “Women, War, & Peace” on Mondays at 7:00 PM, beginning on February 27 and continuing through the month of March. There will be a facilitated discussion following each episode, led by a community member with experience and knowledge of the region. Community members are invited to attend and participate. Please join us for this groundbreaking series.
Un-Fair Campaign Events
Tuesday February 21 – “Cross-Cultural Communication,” facilitated by Scherrie Foster, 4-6pm in the DAIP conference Room 202 E Superior St.
Wednesday March 7 – “Women Rising Up for Peace and Justice: Mighty Be Our Power” by Lehmah Gbowee at Teatro Zuccone, 222 E Superior St. Sponsored by UMD Women’s Studies, DAIP, and the League of Women Voters. FREE.
Thursday March 8 and Monday March 12 – “Unnatural Causes” a PBS film series. At the Duluth Public Library Green Room, 520 W. Superior St. Sponsored by the St. Louis County Public Health Dept. FREE.

Wednesday February 29 – 6pm in the Fireside Room, “Your Gifts, Your Ministry”: An Exploration into Shared Ministry. Faith moves in each of us uniquely, and we all find distinctive ways to express it. Join Pastor Paul for a special session in discovering your “spiritual gifts” and how they might be nurtured in this community of faith we share.
March 2 through 4 -- Men's Retreat at Turning Point Retreat Center near Grand Rapids. Join us for a relaxing weekend of food, recreation, and conversation at this private retreat lodge with lake, sauna, and miles of ski trails. http://turningpointretreat.net/index.php Cost is approximately $50 for the weekend’s lodging (based on 15 people; expenses may vary) and we’ll share our expenses for food Scholarships are available.
Monday March 5 – Ecclesiastical Council for Paul Van Antwerp will be held at United Theological Seminary of the Twin Cities on Monday, March 5, at 11:30am. Lunch to follow. Paul would love to have members of Peace Church be part of this event. Carpooling available. Contact Paul @ 218-349-0143.
March 9-11- Winter Camping Trip to the Boundary Waters. A group of guys at Peace Church are busy planning. All experience levels welcome. Gear will be available to borrow. Contact Paul for more information.
April 20 – Women’s Retreat at Caribou Highlands in Lutsen.
June 10-16 – Intergenerational Trip to the Cheyenne River Indian Reservation in Eagle Butte, South Dakota, where we will work with Habitat for Humanity. Cost is $300 to help with travel, food, and building materials. Open to high school youth and adults. Sign-up sheet is available in the church entryway.
July 10-14 – Senior High Youth Summer Trip to the National Youth Event at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana. Sign-up sheet is in the church entryway. |
