September 7 – Local Saints and Prophets
Pastor Kathy and the Adult Forum team will introduce our year-long theme of Local Saints and Prophets. How do we know a Saint or a Prophet when we meet one, or honor one that we remember?
September 14 – Sister Mary Charles: Engagement and Transcendence
Peter Spooner, curator of this exhibit will give us an introduction to the life and work of Sr. Mary Charles who was beloved as artist and educator in Duluth for 60 years. She worked in many media, but many of us know her best through the icons of the last 20 years of her career. Sr. Mary Charles, who developed a ministry through art, is known for saying, “The world will be saved by beauty.”
Wednesday September 17 – 7:30-8:30 p.m. Special Tour of the Sister Mary Charles Engagement and Transcendence Exhibit at the Tweed Gallery
The Tweed will be opened for a tour led by Peter Spooner, curator of the exhibit, Engagement and Transcendence. All members of the Peace Community are invited to come. The exhibit will be closing on September 21, 2014. Jackie Falk and Mark Hakes will be bringing the middle school youth.
Sunday September 21 – Introduction to Icons
Dr. Steven Matthews Associate Professor of history is considered one of the most interesting professors at UMD. Dr. Matthews, who teaches Christian History at UMD, will explain how icons are more than art, but as sacred images have an important spiritual role.

As an art educator, Sr. Mary Charles was committed to fostering the creative spark she believed inherent in all God’s people. We will offer an opportunity for everyone to try out one of Sr. Mary Charles favorite strategies, Water Colors & Wonder. More information will be provided to prepare for this event.
