Dismantling Racism Adult Forums in October
Get out your calendars and get ready for a great series of adult forums, events, and films in the coming months, sponsored by the dismantling racism team.
October 1 – Doctrine of Discovery – A look at the false story that deeply shaped and continues to impact our land and people. Nathan Holst will lead a discussion after watching some clips that explore what the Doctrine of Discovery is.
Also on October 1, after the 10:30 service we’ll offer the Blanket Exercise. Lunch will be provided at 11:30am and then Nathan Holst will lead the Blanket Exercise, which is a moving and interactive dramatization of white settlement on indigenous land here in the U.S. It takes about an hour and a half and includes a talking circle at the end.
October 8 – Local indigenous leader Lyz Jaakola, will share Ojibwe stories from our area, continuing the theme of story telling. Our own Peace member and indigenous leader Tadd Johnson will also be preaching that day.
October 15 – Babette Sandman, Indigneous Commission Chairperson, will help us in our conversation about where we go from here, and how our understanding of our own stories help us wrestle with what we do as we are transformed by the larger community stories.
Peace Church Visual Artists and Writers Adult Forums Sundays October 22 through November 19

The following artists have confirmed, and there will likely be others taking part:
October 22 – Gail Blum and Amanda Hunter
October 29 – Rolf Hagberg and Kate Hawley
November 5 – Nina Preheim and Sarah Holst
November 12 – Elsie Cook
November 19 – Susan Ranfranz
