February 2: Jane Gilley and Lyn Clark Pegg will present the St Louis County Health Status Report which envisions a community “where all people are safe and healthy”. The report acknowledges the impact of race, poverty and zip code on the overall health of citizens and the community as a whole and makes recommendations for ways to take action to realize the vision of a safe and healthy community.
February 9: Men Against Sex Trafficking — John Pegg will join Blair Moses, from Men as Peacemakers (MAP), to lead a discussion about an original, local initiative called Men Against Sex Trafficking (MAST). This is a group of men, who work side by side with women, in Ending sex trafficking in the Twin Ports, Mending the harm caused by sex trafficking, and Preventing the ongoing sexual exploitation of women and children.
Focus on Housing and Homelessness in Our City
February 16: Western Lake Superior Habitat for Humanity – Susan Jones and Daryl Yankee will be with us to talk about the work of our local chapter of Habitat for Humanity and their Re-store. We hope to have a summer work weekend here in Duluth with them. As they say on their website, ” We use local donations to make a difference right here in our community. At Western Lake Superior Habitat for Humanity we allow folks to “Love thy Neighbor” in a safe, supervised environment that leaves a lasting impact, physically and spiritually. From the Twin Ports to Two Harbors to Carlton County we connect those who care with those in need.”
February 23: Lee Stuart, Executive Director of CHUM
Come and meet Lee, the new executive director of Chum. She will do a brief presentation of what’s happening at Chum, trends in homelessness and programs to address the growing needs. There will be time for questions and conversation.
March 2: Dan Green, Asset Manager for Center City Housing
Come and hear what’s happening at Center City Housing — including the new Steve O’Neil housing units and other housing programs that Center City Housing manages.
