Praising God, Living the Way of Jesus, Building the Beloved Community
Dear Members and Friends of Peace UCC,
Our congregation has been truly blessed by your presence and the gifts of so many people this past year. We have had youth work camps and Vacation Bible School, incredible worship led by members during Pastor Kathy’s sabbatical, Sunday school and adult forums and so many small group opportunities. In addition there has been significant outreach to Chum, the wider UCC, the county jail and so many other ministries. All of this depends on the sharing of each of our unique gifts, both money and talents. This letter is an invitation for you to intentionally and prayerfully consider your 2015 pledge to Peace Church.
Enclosed you will find a pledge card for your 2015 pledge. Please bring it to worship on November 9th or mail to the church in the envelope provided. If you are unable to pledge at this time we ask that you return the pledge card with a zero indicated to help with our follow-up efforts. Plan on staying for a chili lunch after worship on November 9th.
The Finance Committee along with the Council will develop the budget for 2015 once the projected income is determined based on pledges received. We continue to strive to increase our mission giving. We have also seen increases due to rising costs of heat, electricity and snow plowing. Please consider an increase to your pledge if you are able. You can see how the money is spent by downloading a PDF of 2014 narrative budget.
The Stewardship Team has long promoted the “Modern Tithe” and “Proportional Giving”. The Modern Tithe is giving five percent of income to the church and five percent to other charitable endeavors. Proportional Giving is giving a percentage of your income, thus as income goes up or down your pledge would go up or down proportionally. A simple calculation of the Modern Tithe is $1 per week per $1000 of annual income. Not all of us are able to do this, but start at a percentage that works for you and try to increase the percentage some each year.
Many of you pay your pledge by electronic giving. This is extremely helpful to the church. If you want to do this for 2015 there is a form enclosed in the packet. If you change your pledge for 2015 you must also fill out the form. If you do not fill out the form and are currently giving electronically, the same amount will be deducted from your account in January.
Again thanks for all you are as the people of Peace Church. We hope to see you on November 9th, and be sure to plan on staying for lunch!
